How Long Do Veneers Last? Longevity, Maintenance, and What to Expect

7 min read February 2026By Dr. Drew King, DMD, FICOI

One of the most common questions I hear from patients considering a smile makeover is, how long will my veneers last? It is a crucial question, as the longevity of porcelain veneers is a direct reflection of the quality of the materials used and the skill of the dentist placing them. At Atlanta Dental Spa, we don't just create beautiful smiles; we build them to last. As a Fellow of the International Congress of Oral Implantologists, my focus is always on providing a result that is not only aesthetically stunning but also durable and functional for many years to come.

The type of porcelain used for your veneers plays a significant role in their lifespan. In our practice, we utilize the top three porcelain systems available today: Empress, Emax, and Feldspathic porcelain. While all are excellent materials, I have found that Emax veneers offer a superior combination of strength and beauty, often lasting 15 to 20 years, or even longer with proper care. This exceptional durability is why I so often recommend Emax for patients seeking a truly long-term solution for their smile.

While high-quality materials are essential, the expertise of the cosmetic dentist is paramount to ensuring the longevity of your veneers. My training, including a General Practice Residency with a focus on IV conscious sedation, and my FICOI credential, reflect a commitment to the highest standards of care. The precise bonding of a veneer to the tooth structure is a meticulous process that requires years of experience to master. A perfect bond, combined with a precisely designed bite, is what ensures your veneers will remain securely in place and function just like your natural teeth.

Once your custom veneers are placed, their longevity is then in your hands. I educate all my patients on how to care for their new smile to maximize its lifespan. This includes using a non-abrasive toothpaste and a soft-bristled toothbrush to avoid scratching the porcelain. Regular dental check-ups and professional cleanings at one of our five Atlanta Dental Spa locations are also critical for maintaining the health of your gums and the integrity of your veneers. We will monitor your bite and the condition of your veneers to catch any potential issues before they become problems.

Your daily habits can also have a significant impact on how long your veneers last. Just as with natural teeth, it is important to avoid using your veneers as tools to open packages or biting on hard objects like ice or fingernails. If you have a habit of grinding or clenching your teeth, a condition known as bruxism, we may recommend a custom-fitted nightguard to protect your veneers while you sleep. Being mindful of these small things can make a big difference in the long-term success of your smile investment.

Choosing to enhance your smile with porcelain veneers is a significant decision, and it's an investment in your confidence and well-being. At Atlanta Dental Spa, voted 'Best Cosmetic Dentist' in Atlanta, we are committed to providing a world-class experience and a result that you will love for years to come. Patients travel from across the country for the level of care and artistry we provide, and we are proud to offer virtual consultations via SmileVirtual to make the process even more convenient. When you choose us, you are choosing a partner in your long-term dental health and a smile that is built to last.
